Arctic Watch To Close Permanently.

Arctic Watch will be closing effectively immediately.

Dear Arctic Watch Guests,

After twenty-five years of welcoming travelers to one of the most extraordinary places on Earth, we are writing to share a difficult and deeply emotional decision: Arctic Watch will be permanently closing all tourism operations.

This conclusion follows years of increasing political and regulatory challenges in Nunavut. The current climate has become adversarial and fundamentally incompatible with operating a responsible, guest-centered tourism business. Despite public messaging about sustainability and community benefit, it has become evident that the region is prioritizing resource extraction over the long-term value of nature-based tourism. When the very government agency meant to support tourism actively works against our ability to operate, it becomes clear that we must step away. We have explored every avenue to avoid this outcome, but the uncertainty and disruption created by the government’s recent treatment of Arctic Watch, have made this impossible. We cannot continue in an environment that lacks basic certainty, and which undermines the stability, respect, and collaboration needed to run Arctic Watch safely and ethically. Arctic Watch will be closing its doors to tourism.

For guests booked for the upcoming season: your deposits will be fully refunded. Our team will reach out individually in the coming days to arrange reimbursements and answer any questions you may have.

Our family began welcoming guests to the Arctic out of a deep love for the North. Over three generations, we have explored, studied, and shared this remarkable region, and that passion has guided every decision we made.

Looking ahead, Nansen and Tessum will continue developing Weber Powder, offering world-class ski experiences and summer mountain adventures in British Columbia, while also continuing Weber Arctic private journeys in parts of the Arctic outside Nunavut. Richard and Josée will be taking personal time to rest, reflect, and consider their next chapter after so many years devoted to building and operating Arctic Watch.

To everyone who has traveled with us over the years: thank you. Thank you for 25 years of extraordinary adventures, for your trust, for your curiosity, and for sharing in our love of the Arctic. It has been the honour of a lifetime to explore this region with you.

With gratitude,
The Weber Family
